Kids Can Do: Easy Preschool ABC’s and 123’s

Easy. Quick. Fun. Inexpensive.

These simple Kids Can Do activities are fit for any growing preschooler ... it’s like fun and education all rolled up into one big burrito! And the topper - your smart niƱo will practice his ABC’s and 123’s at the same time!

Alphabet Soup Place plastic/magnetic/puzzle alphabet letters together in a bowl. Provide a scoop, wooden spoon and bowls for your child to play with. Name letters and spell words together. Add Bingo cards and make another game. Your child can scoop out letters and match them to letters on their Bingo card. You can even make your own card by writing a different letter in each square.

Number Stamping Divide a sheet of paper into 4 sections. Write a number in each of the sections. Give your child stamps (or stickers) to stamp the appropriate number of objects in each section. This is great to teach 1:1 correspondence!

French Fry Fun Ask for some clean french fry holders from your favorite fast food chain. Place a mailing label inside the container at the top and label it with numbers. It is good to use the number such as “3” three and symbols such as " *** " for each number used. Purchase a yellow sponge to cut in french fry shapes. Children will have a great time counting french fries. To add a little challenge, allow the children to use food service gloves while being closely supervised!

Number Cups Number cups can be made using juice, coffee or frosting cans with specific numbers written on or attached to the cans. (Always check for rough edges.) Fill the cans with that specific number of objects inside. Fill the cans and count with toys, blocks, crayons, pictures, balls, trucks, cotton balls, spoons, felt cutouts of different shapes, popsicle sticks, and other household items. You can also label the cups according to colors.

Matching Game Use old decks of cards to create a matching game by taking one set of cards, two through ten, and gluing them down in a folder or on a piece of poster board. Use the remainder of the deck as matching cards. Children can match other cards, two through ten, to the set that has been glued down. Calendar Match: Cut up old calendars to create matching cards. Leave one page of the calendar intact to be the mat for matching the cut-up calendar pieces.

We hope you'll enjoy these Kids Can Do activities brought to you by VickyandJen.com. Have fun too Moms and Dads!
