This is Tip 3 of our listener feature. This week we are sharing tips from some of our past guests about creating a memorable Thanksgiving. Please visit here to read her entire question and her fabulous start to having a most meaningful holiday with her family.
Tip 3 featuring Lynn of Be Green: Celebrations.
- Go for a walk as a family before the holiday, collecting natural items (legally), bring them home and have everyone help decorate.
- Invite another family to share a PART of the meal with you, for instance, just dessert. Make dessert special if not the rest of the meal.
- Dress up the table even if the meal isn't an expensive or fancy one. Take glass jars and make paper "skirts" for them, then put in votive candles, make hand print turkeys or whatever else you can think of as a family, then decorate the table.
- Create a countdown to Thanksgiving calendar. Every night open up a note and do something together as a family. End the activity by having everyone say why they are grateful for something that happened that day.
- Have a backwards Thanksgiving dinner. Eat dessert first!
- Make something to give to neighbors, take it around and leave on doorstep on Thanksgiving day (check online for lots of ideas that cost nothing).
- Turn regular games into Thanksgiving games, i.e. Pin the feathers on the Turkey or Turkey toss with turkey shaped bean bags you can make yourself.
